Minister Timmermans discusses airline disaster in Brussels

The foreign ministers of the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) met today in Brussels to discuss a number of issues, including the situation in Ukraine and the downing of flight MH17. The countries present expressed their sympathy for the families and friends of the victims.

Foreign minister Frans Timmermans told his Asian colleagues that the Netherlands would not rest until all the victims were back with their loved ones and those responsible had been brought to justice.

In a joint statement the ministers expressed their shock at the disaster. The countries called on all parties involved to work together to achieve the immediate and respectful repatriation of the victims, an unrestricted, independent international investigation and the prosecution of those responsible.
