When are the school holidays in 2020-2021?

The following holiday dates in the 2020/2021 school year are for primary education, special education and secondary education. In secondary vocational education (MBO) and higher education, institutions are free to set their own holiday dates.

Autumn holiday 2020 (all dates inclusive)

  • North region: 10 October to 18 October 2020
  • South and central regions: 17 October to 25 October 2020

These dates are advisory. Schools may change them, but they must publish their holiday dates in the school prospectus.

Christmas holiday 2020 – 2021

  • All regions: 19 December 2020 to 3 January 2021 inclusive

Spring holiday 2021 (all dates inclusive)

  • North and central regions: 20 February to 28 February 2021
  • South region: 13 February to 21 February 2021

May holiday 2021

  • All regions: 1 May to 9 May 2021 inclusive

Schools may extend the May holiday by one week if they wish. For the exact dates, check your school’s website or prospectus.

Summer holiday 2021 (all dates inclusive)

  • North region: 10 July to 22 August 2021
  • Central region: 17 July to 29 August 2021
  • South region: 24 July to 5 September August 2021

The Netherlands is divided into 3 school holiday regions: north, central and south.
