Veterans' Day and the Veterans' Card

Dutch Veterans’ Day takes place annually on the Saturday nearest to 29 June. Dutch veterans are entitled to a Veterans’ Card.

Veterans' Day

29 June was the birthday of the late Prince Bernhard, which is why Dutch Veterans’ Day falls on the Saturday nearest to that date. It provides an annual opportunity to commemorate the deployment of Dutch soldiers in the past, as well as to mark current Dutch involvement in international peacekeeping operations.

Activities on Veterans' Day

The main activities on Veterans’ Day take place in The Hague. The focus is on honouring veterans, for instance in a march past and a large gathering on the Malieveld. Veterans’ Day gives visitors and veterans the chance to meet.

Veterans' Card

Dutch veterans qualify for a Veterans’ Card, entitling them to certain benefits, like a free subscription to the veterans’ monthly magazine Checkpoint. Veterans can apply for their card to the  Netherlands Veterans Institute.
