Discrimination

Discrimination is the unequal treatment of persons on the grounds of certain characteristics. For instance if a person is not allowed to enter a nightclub because of his skin colour or when a woman is paid less for doing the same work as her male colleagues.

Everyone in the Netherlands is entitled to equal treatment. The government wants to prevent and combat discrimination. The Constitution of the Netherlands accordingly states that all persons have equal rights.
