Will I build up state pension if I go to live or work outside the Netherlands?

After having lived in the Netherlands, if you go to live abroad you will usually stop building up state pension. This is because you will no longer be compulsorily covered under the General Old Age Pensions Act. However, if you live abroad but work in the Netherlands, you will in most cases still be insured under the Act. You can choose to voluntarily insure yourself if you are no longer building up any state pension.

Go to the Sociale Verzekeringsbank – SVB (social insurance bank) website for information on living and working outside the Netherlands and state pension.
