End evaluation of CABI Plantwise Burundi (2020-2023)

The Plantwise project in Burundi (2020-2023), implemented by CABI, aims to strengthen the national plant health system through Plant Clinics, where trained “Plant Doctors” provide advice to farmers. The final evaluation finds that the project has made significant progress, with farmers widely using and trusting the advice received, leading to improved crop management and productivity. The project has also contributed to greater gender cooperation in farming households. However, access to clinics remains limited in some areas, and weaknesses persist in the availability of quality seeds and plant protection products. For long-term sustainability, the evaluation recommends institutionalizing the Plantwise approach within government systems, strengthening collaboration among plant health institutions, improving input supply and regulation, and consolidating training and data management systems.
