Noise regulations for businesses

Not all businesses have to comply with the same noise regulations. Local authorities can diverge from the standards, allowing more or less noise depending on such factors as the type of business or its location. They can also impose additional requirements, such as keeping doors closed when sawing timber.

Noise rules for businesses

The Noise Pollution Act lays down acceptable noise levels for businesses in industrial areas. The Environmental Management (General Rules for Establishments) Decree lays down general environmental rules on noise for commercial operations. Businesses that comply with the Decree do not usually need to apply for an environmental licence.

The Environmental Legislation and Licensing Information Centre (InfoMil) provides detailed information on noise regulations for businesses. You can fill out a web form to contact InfoMil.
