Rules apply to people coming to the Netherlands. They may require a Schengen visa, for instance. Or they may have to apply for a residence permit if they want to stay in the Netherlands for a long period of time.

If someone is coming to the Netherlands to study or do academic research, for instance, different rules apply than if the person is coming to the Netherlands to join their partner.
