Applying for an adoption pay

If you are adopting a child and you are taking adoption leave, you are entitled to receive an adoption pay during the period of your leave. This allowance will last as long as your leave.

Eligibility for an adoption pay

To be eligible for an adoption pay, you must meet certain conditions. For example, you must be working for an employer or receive unemployment benefit (WW), sickness benefit or wage-related return-to-work (WGA) benefit. Please consult the UWV website to find out about eligibility for an adoption pay.

Employer makes application for adoption pay

If you are working for an employer, your employer will make the application for an adoption allowance for you.

Receivers of benefit apply via UWV (Employment Insurance Agency)

If you are receiving unemployment benefit (WW), sickness benefit or wage-related return-to-work (WGA) benefit, then you can contact the UWV to apply for an adoption pay.
