Serving a foreign sentence in the Netherlands

Dutch citizens who have received a sentence abroad may, under certain conditions, serve their sentence in the Netherlands. If this sentence has been imposed in a country within the European Union, the applicable rules are different from those that apply when the sentence has been imposed by a country outside the European Union.

  • A prison sentence imposed in a member state of the European Union
  • An alternative or conditional sentence
