Applying for an old-age pension

If you are reaching retirement age and you live in the Netherlands or have previously lived in the Netherlands, you will receive a monthly old-age pension payment from the Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB). The old-age pension benefit is paid until you die. The old-age pension is a basic government pension.

Eligibility for an old-age pension

To be eligible for an old-age pension, you must meet a number of requirements. For example, you must have reached state retirement age and either live in the Netherlands or have previously lived in the Netherlands.

Applying for an old-age pension

Applications for an old-age pension are made digitally to the SVB. The SVB will send you a letter 4 months before you reach state retirement age. That letter provides details on how to apply for an old-age pension.
