Consensus between the Netherlands and China

On the occasion of the visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs Caspar Veldkamp to China, consensus was reached on the following:

  1. The two sides agreed to maintain close exchanges, deepen practical cooperation in fields such as economy and trade, science and technology, agriculture, and water conservancy, and expand people-to-people exchanges, so as to promote sound and steady development of the open and pragmatic partnership for comprehensive cooperation between the Netherlands and China.
  2. The two sides discussed concerns in relation to bilateral trade and agreed to maintain close exchanges and communications through existing channels about the cooperation in multiple fields including semiconductor technology.
  3. The Netherlands and China reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism, respect for the international system with the United Nations (UN) at its core and for fundamental norms governing international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, as well as their commitment to protect these norms in upcoming UN reform processes to make the UN fit-for-purpose. The two sides are committed to upholding the UN Charter and international law, and all three pillars of the UN system, namely peace and security, development and human rights.
  4. The two sides are committed to free trade and a multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core, underscored the importance of open and rules-based trade and fair competition, as well as the contribution of trade to economic growth.
  5. The Netherlands and China are partners on climate cooperation and jointly make efforts on climate action based on the best available science, taking into account different national circumstances, as well as sustainable utilization of energy resources to minimize negative impact on people and environment. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the Paris Agreement, both sides are committed to continue close cooperation to promote full and effective implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement in good faith, facilitate COP30 achieving positive outcomes, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation in areas such as climate adaptation and green transition.
  6. Major steps are required globally to achieve equality and equal rights for all, especially for women and girls. The Netherlands and China have recommitted to jointly pushing for the achievement of this goal. The international conference to be held in Beijing in the second half of this year is an important moment, where we will further discuss our joint efforts.
