Real-world fuel consumption and energy consumption of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the Netherlands 2024
The report examines the difference between the fuel consumption value as measured by the manufacturer according to the official WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light vehicle Test Procedure) test cycle and the real-world consumption as determined based on the fuel card data of Travelcard. The report shows that from 2022 onwards, the difference between the WLTP value and the real-world consumption increases again for petrol and diesel cars. For plug-in hybrid cars, it is estimated that the new way in which the share of electric driving is taken into account in the WLTP test cycle will reduce the gap between the standard and the real-world value. For electric cars, the real-world energy consumption increases, while the WLTP energy consumption decreases at the same time.
