You must always use a seatbelt if your car seat has one. This applies to both the front and rear of a car or other vehicle. Children shorter than 1.35 metres must be seated in a child car seat. In some cases, your child may be granted an exemption from the obligation to wear a seatbelt or use a child car seat.

Criteria for an exemption from the mandatory use of a seat belt

Do you want to be granted an exemption from the mandatory use of a seat belt (in Dutch)? You must meet certain conditions. For example if you have a disability that prevents you from wearing a seatbelt. You can be granted an exemption from the mandatory use of a child car seat (in Dutch) if your child cannot use a child car seat for medical reasons.
