In the European Union (EU), all car owners must have their cars undergo a periodic technical inspection (algemene periodieke keuring, APK). A garage or inspection centre will assess your car for safety in use, roadworthiness and environmental compliance. After the inspection, you will receive a keuringsrapport (inspection report).
When and how often you must have your car inspected
The RDW website states when and how often you must have your vehicle inspected. If your vehicle has already passed an APK, you should have your car inspected before the date stated on the inspection report.
Where to have your car inspected
You can have your car inspected at a garage or inspection centre approved by the RDW.
You can also have an APK carried out in Belgium and Spain.
