If you have a car, motorbike or scooter, you must take out third-party insurance. This covers any damage you cause with your motor vehicle. If, on the grounds of your religion or beliefs, you do not want to take out third-party insurance, you can apply for an exemption from the insurance obligation.

Exemption from the insurance obligation in 2 steps

Do you want to apply for an exemption from the insurance obligation? You can do so in 2 steps:

1. First, you will need an exemption as a conscientious objector (gemoedsbezwaarde). You can apply for an exemption as a conscientious objector from the SVB (Social Insurance Bank).

2. Once you have received your exemption as a conscientious objector, you can apply for an exemption from the obligation to take out third-party insurance. You can apply for an exemption from the obligation to take out third-party insurance at the Waarborgfonds Motorverkeer (Motor Traffic Guarantee Fund).

Paying for damage without third-party insurance

If, as a conscientious objector, you do not have third-party insurance, you must pay an annual contribution to the Fonds Middelen Gemoedsbezwaarden (Conscientious Objectors’ Fund). This ensures that you will receive compensation for any damage you may cause.
