Nursing homes and residential care

Anyone who needs round-the-clock care or supervision is entitled to a place in residential care. These are facilities for people with high-level care needs, like vulnerable elderly people or people with severe mental or physical disabilities. Home care is also possible, but only if this is practicable and cost-efficient. Health and safety are key issues. The high-level care system is set out in the Long-term care act  (WLZ).
