When a child is born, the parents must do a number of things. This includes registering the birth in the Register of Births, Deaths, Marriages and Registered Partnerships within three days. The municipality will then issue a birth certificate. You are free to choose your child’s given name(s). You can use either the father’s or the mother’s surname.
