Applying for a performance grant provision in the event of study delay
If you receive a prestatiebeurs (performance grant) from DUO (education implementation service) and your studies are delayed or you have to terminate your studies due to special circumstances (such as a disability or chronic illness), you may be entitled to a performance grant provision. This is an exception to the rules for a normal performance grant.

Different performance grant provisions
In the event of study delay due to special circumstances, the following provisions are available:
- extension of the performance grant by one year;
- new student finance application;
- extension of the period in which you must obtain your diploma;
- conversion of the performance grant into a gift.
You can find more information on all performance grant provisions on the DUO website.
How to apply for a performance grant provision
If you are experiencing study delay due to special circumstances, you should report this to your student counsellor as soon as possible. They can apply for a performance grant provision on your behalf. Together with DUO, they will assess whether you meet the conditions.
You can only apply for a performance grant provision from DUO yourself if you are eligible for Wajong benefits.
